Finding your voice
Writing is all about finding your own voice – its all about the ability to convey your own story and each of us have our own story to tell.
My Search for an iPad cover
Recently I visited Majestic City and Unity Plaza looking for a cover for my much weathered iPad and I had something very specific in mind. But the guys who design iPad covers had other ideas the more I looked the more I became uncertain due to the sheer variety available. Covers aren’t just covers anymore! I just needed something to protect my iPad from the unexpected fall – make it a bit shock proof. What amazed me even more was the variety of iPhone covers that were much more elaborate that even iPad covers. So does every one need their own custom designed cover. My guess now is yes.
Just like each of us needs that particular iPad cover each of us has a unique voice and opinion on the world that needs to be heard the more voices are heard the more the world will benefit from rich diversity of good ideas. That in my opinion is why blogging is important and why you should start your own blog – as it is a sound way of keeping a journal and also measuring your own progress towards achieving your own life goals. If your lucky you’ll also have a group of people following you giving their own insights into what you need to do or congratulating you on what you did right.
Why do you need to find your own voice
Many people read and believe what other people tell them to believe this is not how understanding is supposed to work. Reading and understanding what you read is good but believing everything you read is bad. Having your own inner voice telling you what is reasonable is great but you also have to listen to it and channel it in the correct direction and that direction in my opinion is writing. In the days of financial meltdown we all have to be skeptical of people’s motives and develop a way of constructively criticising what we see as wrong in the world. The internet has provided that common platform where each citizen has as many votes as blogposts.
Does your opinion matter? Yes it does – because you are unique and your life experiences are unique so don’t sell yourself short and consider the small picture as well as the big picture and you are important to both. You are a valuable member of humanity so you need to contribute to the cause by developing your own voice for the betterment of humanity
When will you find your own voice
Once you start being noticed by others and having people looking up to you as a mentor – this is an indication that you have arrived. Being a good mentor is very important to finding your own voice and provides you with valuable feedback on what you are doing and what you should be doing.
So go ahead and start your first blog post it does not cost you anything other than time and don’t worry plenty of people will want to read what you want to write about – so just do it already
